Description

This is no Farmoor, Otmoor or Port Meadow. This is Grimsbury. It's Grim up north!

There is a running total year list in the link above.

Please send in your bird sightings to the B.O.S. and/or to me directly for inclusion on the blog. If you have some photos you would like to contribute please let me know (contact via the comments box on the right if you do not have my email already). Thank you.

Access Information

The main access for the reservoir is off the A422, Hennef Way, between the M40 motorway and the Lockheed Close retail park. There are brown signs for the Sailing Club and a small car park for Spiceball Park (free to use).

Go through the reservoir gates to access a path that takes you all of the way round the reservoir. This path is generally well surfaced and allows access for most people. At the northern end of the reservoir, the pathways extend into the woodland and on to the Oxford Canal.

To access the Upper Cherwell Valley, follow the public footpath along the canal to the north. Alternatively there is an access point from the the Banbury Gateway retail park, via a footpath under the M40 to the flood alleviation scheme embankment, where an established cycle route leads you into the valley.

Please stick to pathways and areas of public access, and enjoy the area responsibly. Access is not permitted into the farmers' fields or further north into the Upper Cherwell Valley away from the public footpath.

In particular, it would be great if people could be mindful of the potential to disturb breeding birds in the spring and summer and to reduce the risk of their activities causing harm.

An Ordnance Survey map of the site can be viewed here.
