Birding and wildlife blog for Grimsbury Reservoir, Grimsbury Woodland Nature Reserve and the Upper Cherwell Valley, north Oxfordshire.
Description
This is no Farmoor, Otmoor or Port Meadow. This is Grimsbury. It's Grim up north!
There is a running total year list in the link above.
Please send in your bird sightings to the B.O.S. and/or to me directly for inclusion on the blog. If you have some photos you would like to contribute please let me know (contact via the comments box on the right if you do not have my email already). Thank you.

I had a walk around today, it was fairly quiet really. Although c.45 Lapwing in a wet field up the valley was nice to see and possibly the most I've seen on patch.

11th Jan 2020
I had a walk around with John this morning. To be honest not any huge changes or big news, but the was still a Little Egret and a Greylag Goose up the valley.

10th Jan 2020
I had a good walk around this afternoon. It was a lovely sunny day and a pleasant walk, but unfortunately very little change bird wise. House Sparrow and Kingfisher were new for the year though. I stayed for the gull roost, but only 17 Black-headed Gulls arrived by 4:20 when I decided to give up and go home!

5th Jan 2020: Whooper Swans!
This morning was my first real chance to have a proper walk around the whole patch, along with Clive. It was really good and we recorded 51 species on patch.
At the reservoir we had Siskin fly over and a Jay in the wood. The best birds were further up the valley though. There were two Stonechats around the borrow pit pool (which have been around for a while now). I was scanning though the ducks when we finally realised the two swan at the back of the pool were not Mute Swans! Unfortunately just after we realised they were flushed by a passing dog walker. We got a good enough view to confirm they were Whooper Swans but unfortunately my chance to get any pictures was rather brief... well that's my excuse anyway! There was also a Little Egret flying around, a Wigeon on the pool and two Snipe in the usual wet field. Later in the afternoon there was three Wigeon flying around over the reservoir but they didn't land while I was there.

New Year Sightings
Happy New Year! Let's hope it's a good one.
New years day was a fairly easy and steady start of the year list. I went up for a quick walk around at lunchtime and notched up 28 species. Nothing terribly exciting really but a pleasant stroll.
I will update the year list ASAP. Please send over news of any sightings if I miss them or as new sightings are recorded as the year goes on.
